Wearable click-free camera will capture a day in your life

A groundbreaking camera that decides itself when to take a shot will go on sale in Britain in November, in the first consumer application of technology developed by the British maker OMG Plc.
The device, called the Autographer, uses five in built sensors and software developed by Microsoft Corp to choose the best moment to capture an image without any intervention from the user.

The high-resolution pictures, which can number 2,000 in a day, can then be combined to create a visual record of an event like a party, a music festival or a typical day in the life of the owner.
The Autographer, which can be worn around the neck, clipped to clothing or placed in a particular vantage point, is the first consumer device from OMG, whose stop motion technology is used in fields ranging from computer game development to surveying roads.

Galaxy note 10.1 to take on apple ipad

Fierce competition to meet ever-increasing user demands has produced a fine selection of premium tablets and, to stay in the game, Samsung had to throw everything it's got at the Galaxy Note 10.1. Yes, it was sent back to the shop but we can think of a lot worse reasons than an engine upgrade.
So, a quad-core Exynos 4412 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM is no joke but there's more to the Note than just raw power.
Key features
  * 10.1" 16M-color PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen of WXGA resolution (1280 x 800 pixels)
  * 1.4 GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU, Mali-400MP GPU, Exynos 4 Quad chipset, 2GB of RAM
  * Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz UX UI
  * S Pen input with well-designed gestures
  * One of a kind split-screen multitasking and pop-up mini apps
  * Quad-band GPRS/EDGE and quad-band 3G with HSPA connectivity (HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps)

Audi S6/S7/S8

Think of Audi’s ‘S’ cars as the sportier cousins of the normal line-up with the S variant’s more powerful engines and slightly extroverted design details being the key differentiators here. India will get the entire S range that includes the S4, S5, S6, S7 and S8 in 2012.  The new S6 that was launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show comes with a 414bhp, 4-litre twin-turbo V8. Performance will be entertaining, to say the least.  Another new addition to the S line is the S8. Marrying sports car performance to limo-like luxury, the S8 shares its engine with the S6, but power is an even higher 513bhp. Pricing is yet not known, but expect these S cars to cost considerably more than the current range-topping variants for each model. However, the S5 will be a cheaper option to the more powerful RS5. S6 will spearhead Audi’s S line’s entry into India. S8 is sports car and limo rolled into one. . Sportier petrol S7 will join diesel A7 sibling.

Mercedes B-Class!!!

With the new B 180, Mercedes-Benz is targeting a whole new demographic in India. Will this new car tempt buyers into trying something different?
The test car came with a sports package that includes low-profile tyres on 18-inch rims and a lowered, sports suspension. The launch car comes with what Merc calls a comfort suspension, which offers higher ground clearance, softer suspension settings and more practical 16-inch wheels on the base petrol variant, while the B 180 Sport gets 17-inch wheels.

The sports kit no doubt adds to the ground-hugging looks of the B-class, but look past the eye candy and you’ll see what looks like a shrunken R-class. There’s that low bonnet, steeply raked windshield and high roofline, and despite the unusual shape, it won’t take long for even untrained eyes to tell it’s a Benz. Every current Merc styling cue is present – the oversized grille with the huge three-pointed star in the centre, the clamshell bonnet and the bumper with its integrated LED lamps all point to Stuttgart.

Subway Surfers dashes into the Google Play Store

Subway Surfers, which was a major hit for iOS devices with over 25 million downloads, has finally made it onto Android devices. The trailer video shows you what to expect.
Get ready to engage in some serious acrobatics as you guide Jake, Tricky and Fresh through the levels, hoping to escape the Inspector and his pitbull. Luckily, you aren’t expected to run without help: a hoverboard and a paint-powered jetpack will help you navigate the busy levels. Either dodge the trains or jump and run on top of them, collecting coins all the while.
At the time of this writing, the app has had just about 1,000 ratings in the Google Play Store and it still has a score of 4.8 out of 5, so it looks like Android users are enjoying it every bit as much as iOS users.

GPS-enabled shoes that point you in the right direction

Inspired by Wizard of Oz, a British designer has developed a pair of GPS-enabled shoes that can guide you in the right direction.

Designer Dominic Wilcox who was inspired by Wizard of Oz, the 1939 classic where Dorothy could click her shoes to get home, decided to combine cinema nostalgia with high-tech wizardry, the Daily Mail reported.

"I decided to make a pair of shoes that can navigate you home where ever you are. I thought about the Wizard of Oz and how Dorothy could click her shoes together to go home," he said.
The new shoes will guide you home from wherever you are.

They come with PC software and a USB cable, so that, once you have got home and tried your shoes on, you can then simply upload your home address, and from then on your shoes will tell you which way to walk.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna is embedded in the heal of the left shoe, which also contains a ring of light-emitting diode (LED) which form a compass.

The shoe meanwhile communicates wirelessly with the right shoe, which contains a progress bar, showing you how much further you need to stroll.

570-megapixel Dark Energy Camera takes its first picture

Scientists have announced that the world's most powerful 570-megapixel digital camera has captured first images of starlight from eight billion years ago.
The ancient rays have crossed countless distant galaxies to find their way to a mountaintop in Chile where a giant sky mapping machine called the Dark Energy Camera recorded them, the Daily Mail reported.

The light may hold within it the answer to one of the biggest mysteries in physics - why the expansion of the universe is speeding up.
Although dark energy appears to account for about 75 percent of the energy-mass content of the universe, scientists have no real idea what it is.

The Dark Energy Survey (DES) collaboration has announced that the camera, which took eight years to build by scientists on three continents, has achieved its first light.
The first pictures of the southern sky were taken by the 570-megapixel camera on September 12.
"The achievement of first light through the Dark Energy Camera brings us a step closer to understanding dark energy, one of the biggest mysteries in the whole of physics," Professor Ofer Lahav, of University College London, who heads the UK arm of the consortium, said.
"The deep observations with the DES camera will tell us why the universe is speeding up and if a major shift is required in our understanding of the universe," Lahav said.
The camera, which is roughly the size of a phone booth, is the most powerful survey instrument of its kind, able to see light from over 100,000 galaxies up to 8 billion light years away in each snapshot.
The camera's array of 62 devices have an unprecedented sensitivity to very red light and will allow scientists from around the world to pursue investigations ranging from studies of asteroids in our own Solar System to the understanding of the origins and the fate of the universe.
Scientists will use the new camera to carry out the largest galaxy survey ever undertaken, and will use that data to probe dark energy by studying galaxy clusters, supernovae and the large-scale clumping of galaxies.

MacBook Pro with Retina display: First look

When I was 13, I was sent to the optician for the first time, and came home with glasses. Suddenly, the world was sharp all around me. I was surprised by the crisp lines of the tree branches against the sky. It was news to me that I was near-sighted, because I had been used to seeing the world in a blur.
Apple Inc. sells a similar epiphany, starting this week, in the shape of a notebook computer. One of its new MacBook Pro models has a "Retina" display, a screen that packs four times as many pixels as a standard display.

Why is this a big deal? It's not easy to describe in print, but a look at the screen tells the whole story. It's like putting on glasses and realizing you're nearsighted. Much like the screen on the latest iPad, the new display makes all other screens look dull and fuzzy.
Even the icons on the Mac screen look so much more detailed. On the calendar icon, you can make out the dots for the individual dates. On the Address book, you suddenly see that the "at" sign on the cover is embossed.

High-resolution photos look really, really sharp. Low-resolution photos, like those on Facebook, are revealed as mushy and indistinct.
With a resolution of 2,880 by 1,800 pixels, the Retina screen can show every pixel in a five-megapixel shot, all at once. It has more pixels than a high-definition TV set - 2.5 times as many.
As you might expect, this epiphany doesn't come cheap. The MacBook Pro with Retina display starts at $2,199.

Sony's new slimmer, high capacity PlayStation 3 coming to India in Oct

Sony has unveiled a redesigned model of its existing Playstation 3 console at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan. The new PlayStation 3 sports a slimmer streamlined design which makes it 20 percent smaller and about 25 percent lighter than the existing PlayStation 3 console. Also, for the first time, the new PlayStation 3 uses a sliding door panel to top load discs as opposed to the slot-loading disc drive. A noticeable change comes in the overall power consumption, which drops from 200W to 190W.

Sony has bumped up the internals of the new version while the prices remain the same. The new PlayStation 3 console will be available in two different models with 250GB and 500GB HDDs. They will come in two colours, black and white. The black model will be released on October 4, while the white model will be released on November 22.

The company announced that the 250GB model will cost 24,980 Yen. Sony did not reveal pricing for the 500GB model. It also announced an Everybody's Golf 6 PS3 pack, which will launch on November 22 with a white PlayStation 3 250GB model for 25,980 Yen.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 review

Whenever video-game companies stretch out popular franchises for financial reasons rather than creative ones, disenchanted customers call it a "money grab." It's a charge Nintendo has largely been immune to, even though its most popular character, Mario, has starred in hundreds of games.
That changes with "New Super Mario Bros. 2" (Nintendo, for the 3DS, $39.99), which takes the whole money-grab concept quite literally. The whole point of the game is to grab money - namely, the sparkling gold coins that have littered almost every Mario release since the mid-1980s. It's an oddly mercenary approach to Nintendo's lovable little plumber, and the result is one of the least inspired outings in his storied history.
That's not to say this is a bad game. It's exactly what you would expect: a collection of cleverly designed, two-dimensional environments for Mario to scamper through, dodging monsters and collecting treasures. The usual power-ups - flowers that let Mario shoot fireballs, a raccoon suit that lets him jump farther - are available in convenient locations. And most of the levels include alternate pathways, so there's motivation to return after you've conquered them.
But while I enjoyed my time in Mario's latest world, I couldn't help feeling like I'd been there before. The major new power-up is a golden block that screws onto Mario's head, creating a trail of coins. The familiar POW blocks now turn obstacles into, well, coins. And hoops scattered across the skies deliver ... more coins. Some sort of prize awaits if you collect 1 million of the things, but I only made it to 10,000.

New Mixtrax from Pioneer AVH-P8490BT Go Clubbing inside your Car

MIXTRAX is not a specific individual software or a product, but a name of technology “to provide continuous uplifting feeling through Mix & Play like presented by DJ” for customers.
Pioneer Electronics continues to offer innovative audio technologies and today introduces MIXTRAX, a proprietary technology which creates a nonstop mix of an entire music library to create a club-like atmosphere. Designed for music lovers and the club-going audience, MIXTRAX takes the music from an iPhone/iPod or USB/SD device and plays it back with added transitions and effects creating a virtual DJ inside select Pioneer products. Derived from Pioneer’s experience in developing world-renown professional DJ products, MIXTRAX is implemented in a variety of worldwide Pioneer car audio products.

    Features:

MIXTRAX EZ: Pioneer applied its unique expertise to keep car entertainment flowing smoothly without interruption, you can experience the intimate euphoria of listening to music that sounds as if a club DJ is there playing it.
Flashing Color: The receiver’s cool flashing color function enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, light starts pulsing to the beat of music livening up your in-car entertainment.
Sound: Sound level mode synchronizes with sound signal level.

    The Technology:

Pioneer’s MIXTRAX technology transforms a consumer’s music library into customizable tracks that can be processed by select Pioneer products. Using Pioneer’s free MIXTRAX music management software, the user’s entire music collection is analyzed and various musical attributes including tempo and beats per minute (BPM) are identified. The software then tags each song and creates an assortment of playlists categorized in different genres and musical styles such as Beat, Chill, and Thump. The advanced analysis of the software identifies the best transition points of each song in the music library and seamlessly mixes and blends the tracks together, much like a DJ performing live.
Additionally, the Mix Style can be selected between Active, Standard and Simple, adjusting the intensity of the effects and transitions used, and the duration of each track within the mix. The custom MIXTRAX playlists can be transferred to a USB/SD memory device (not included) and played through an assortment of Pioneer in-car Audio Video products. Pioneer’s in-car Audio Video receiver takes advantage of its large LCD touch-screen by animating the album art of the currently playing track in time with the mix, creating a truly unique in-vehicle music experience.
To easily and quickly enjoy nonstop mix of music, a simpler version of the technology called MIXTRAX EZ is built-in to several Pioneer in-dash products for both in-car CD receivers and in-car Audio Video receivers. Featured in new in-car CD receivers, different types of DJ-style transitions (Flanger, Echo and Crossfade) and different sound effects (Backspin 1 and 2, Echo, Trans, Roll and Scratch) are automatically added between songs for a nonstop, continuous listening experience.

    Mixtrax Benefit:

Pioneer presents the magic of MIXTRAX- delivering the Non-Stop MIX experience at home or on the go with technology based on Pioneer’s history of innovative professional DJ product development.

Samsung to pursue iPhone 5 sales ban over LTE patents infringement

It was a long time coming, but now it has been officially confirmed - Samsung is going to pursue a ban on the US sales of the Apple iPhone 5. The Koreans believe that the latest iOS smartphone infringes on at least 8 of their LTE patents.
The official statement goes as following:
Samsung anticipates that it will file, in the near future, a motion to amend its infringement contentions to add the iPhone 5 as an accused product. On September 12, 2012, Apple announced that it will release the iPhone 5 on September 21, 2012. Based on information currently available, Samsung expects that the iPhone 5 will infringe the asserted Samsung patents-in-suit in the same way as the other accused iPhone models. Samsung plans to file a motion to amend its infringement contentions to address the iPhone 5 as soon as it has had a reasonable opportunity to analyze the device. Because Samsung believes the accused functionality of the iPhone 5 will be similar to the accused functionality of other accused Apple products, Samsung does not believe that amendment of its infringement contentions should affect the case schedule.
In other words - Samsung doesn't have proof that the iPhone 5 infringes on anything, but it believes the realization of the LTE connectivity in the iPhone 5 is identical to that in other Apple products (the latest iPad). It's yet to analyze the device and extend its claim if its suspicions come out correct.

Apple is not sitting still either. The lawyers of the Cupertino-based company have identified Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as their next target and will try to deal a major blow to the platform, by proving that Android's core functionality infringes Apple-owned patents.
Judge Koh, who is in charge of the lawsuit, will hold a hearing on Wednesday (September 26) to discuss its further management.
